What do I need to do to prepare for shed delivery?
The short answer
Have level ground ready, clear a path wide enough for the truck and mule, mark the exact placement, and remove obstacles like low branches, fence sections, and parked vehicles. Delivery day is short and uneventful when two things are true: the ground is level and the access is clear. Nearly every rescheduled delivery traces back to one of those.
Ground
- Level within a couple of inches across the footprint. A shed set on a slope racks doors and traps water.
- A compacted gravel pad is the best all-around base for a skid-mounted building in Colorado.
- Extend the pad about a foot past the building on each side for drainage.
- Grade so water runs away from the structure, not into it.
Access
- Clear width along the full route — plan on a few feet wider than the building.
- Overhead clearance: trim branches and watch for low wires.
- Firm ground. Soft, saturated, or deep-snow ground can stop the equipment.
- Move vehicles, trailers, trash cans, and open or remove gate sections ahead of time.
Day-of details
- Mark the four corners with stakes or paint so placement is not guesswork.
- Keep pets inside and kids clear of the equipment.
- Be available by phone even if you cannot be home.
- Colorado weather can shift a schedule — mud and heavy snow are real constraints.
