How do I maintain my shed in Colorado?
The short answer
Once a year, clear the roof and around the base, touch up paint and caulk, check door hardware and hinges, keep sprinklers off the siding, and make sure the pad still drains away from the building. That is nearly all of it. Our spring shed clean-out and maintenance post has the seasonal checklist.
Our buildings are low maintenance, not no maintenance. Spring is the natural time to do the whole list at once, before summer projects fill the building back up.
- Sweep the roof and clear leaves and needles away from the base.
- Touch up paint and re-caulk trim seams where the sun has worked on them.
- Adjust door hinges and latches so they close square through the seasons.
- Aim sprinklers away from siding — constant spray is the top cause of premature wear.
- Confirm the gravel pad still slopes water away after freeze-thaw.
